The Day

Was a changeable day today on the bay. The stiff breeze blowing from the north was trying to push the low clouds towards Cape Lookout with varying degrees of success until late afternoon when the fog-like clouds were finally chased away. The breeze is, however, still quite brisk.

The first picture was taken around 2pm.

This next picture was taken about an hour later -- I figured the clouds had won and the bay would be wrapped in their mists for the rest of the day.

I was wrong.

The marine layer is staying off the coast and the strong breeze is continuing to blow any stragglers south before they can come inland.

One of my fuchsias thinks it is spring again and has a bud that is starting to open. I played around with the macro function on the camera and was able to snag this:

As always, click on any picture to make it larger.

  1. Can I just say how it makes my heart sigh with envy to know that you live there? So beautiful. Thanks for the pics.

  3. Awww, cute little bebbe fuchsia! I miss fuchsias. Mine got killed by aphids - which is easier to say than, "I have a black thumb, and I killded them trying to save them from the evil aphids." One o' the many reasons I switched to rocks.

Looks like you had a full selection of weather, there. We just had boring sunshine and a brisk wind all day. We've only had a week or so of sunshine, and I'm already ready for some clouds already. At least I can haz clouds vicariously through you. So, thanks!

  4. i had three but one died in a freak freeze while they were stored on a friend's patio in carmel. i think they have finally adjusted to live up here -- there are lotsa good looking leaves on them and they aren't looking all scraggly. i tend to be a feast or famine kinda gardener and the plants i have are the ones that i have managed to *not* kill.

i forking love the weather here. its always changing. i like the overcast skies -- so many shades of gray and silver and pewter.

  7. Fuschias - I just figure I won't buy them in the first place. They won't live long enough to make it worth the money.

  8. hey cujo -- i've always had a soft spot for the flower. when i moved to boulder creek, i was able to grow them in hanging baskets on the east side of the house. 2 of the 3 survived and were brought up here. they are a bright fuschia color and have bright purple interiors. am hoping the fuschia next to it will also bloom -- they are great eye candy and i consider myself lucky to be able to grow them.

of course, i have to bring them inside in the winter up here.
