Smokey Sunset

Tuesday's sunset was particularly colorful -- due to particulates in the air. Debris piles were being burnt all over and with no wind, the smoke driftes and hang around. Tis quite common this time of year to burn. We've had 18.40 inches of rain since October 1st so fire dangers are very low and we've had no wind to worry about whipping up embers. That, however, is about to change. Winds are starting to come east down the Columbia Gorge along with even colder air visiting from Canada.

Been cold. Got down to 31 last night and it is already 33 outside (and it is only 9pm). Brrr. Weather dood said the really cold air isn't gonna get here until the wind blows it in starting tomorrow. Tis projected to get really cold this weekend with high's only in the 30's. Brrr. Glad I picked up a new thermal and some warm socks earlier this week. I'm gonna be bundled up in more layers than Randy, Ralphie's younger brother in A Christmas Story.

The Dentist

Walked out with one less tooth but it was a doozy. He went after that bad boy (his words) bottom right molar. Took 4 shots and he tested it again, this time popping out one root. I still wasn't totally numb (he said I'm wired a little different -- not uncommon-- and they were looking for my lip to go numb) and since there was only one more root to pop out, I told him to go ahead and take it out. He asked me if I was sure and I affirmed and he yanked that puppy out pretty darn quick.

Of course, halfway home and while telling A (who drove) about the procedure, my lip went numb. And stayed numb for a long time. Once it started to wear off, I started to notice my jaw was really really sore. Thank goodness, Dr. T wrote me a rx for some pain pills. I took one and it helped a lot. Coming about due for another one but wanted to get this post done before I took it -- friends don't let friends blog while comfortably numb.

Mother Earth

Mother Nature has been making us more aware of her presence since Friday. Rainstorms, hail, gusty winds that one has to lean into to make any progress walking, sunshine and rainbows quickly followed by more rain, and the wind only eases. I forking love it (laughing). Token still gets all agitated when it hails and he and Bailey will stare at the living room windows as if they are not quite sure that whatever it is out there isn't gonna end up in here.

The First Christmas Song

Am learning the birds on the bay. Downstairs lent me her copy of Birds of the Pacific Northwest Coast and I'm eager to start learning. I think this is an egret. He stook there for several hours and then flew away with a flock of Canadian geese.


I heard my first Christmas song on the radio today - this was it. Bob Rivers doing his finest.
