Honkey Tonk Train

Honky Tonk Train performed by Seeley & Baldori. Some fine boogie woogie piano for this soft summer day on the Oregon coast.

Has been hovering between 69 and 70 degrees all afternoon with an occasional big gust of wind keeping the air clean and clear. Saw some big breakers when I went into town today - the drive to the store and back was lovely but there was a lot of traffic with a lotta folks getting a start on their Labor Day weekend. One of my neighbors told me that it will soon start to quiet down along the coast and the perfect summer days will change.

Lotsa changes - and I like change.

Things That I Used To Do

Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Things That I Used To Do, live on the River Boat Queen, 1988.

Raining today at the cozy cottage on the coast. Only thing this place doesn't have is a fireplace or a wood stove to keep the damp outta the air. Fireplace, wood stove, pellet stove - they are on the list of things I must have no matter where I end up living.

Tis early in the storm and it is not a hard rain but is too much to be considered a drizzle. Is soft like a drizzle tho. Before it started raining, I had two big fat jays along with some little chickadees - birds I had at the feeder at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods - at the bird feeder I hung outside the kitchen window today. Have 4 jay feathers I found my first full day here on the table. Feels right cozy - other than that no fireplace thang :)

Let It Roll

Let It Roll (Video) by Little Feat (c) 1988 Warner Bros. Records for the U.S. and WEA International Inc. for the world outside of the U.S.

Another day filled with glorious sunshine along the Central Oregon coast - a day to be driving the coast in a convertible gathering in all the eye candy nature provides. Instead, I'm gonna walk down and watch the surfers and see if there are any ocean kayaks taking on the currents along the point.

Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine

Country Joe and The Fish - Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine

The sun chased away the fog and it is a glorious day on the Oregon coast. Drove into town today and picked up some groceries and incidentals. When I got home, I washed the outside windows and did some putzing around the cozy cottage on the coast - hung the bird feeder outside the kitchen window (on the porch overhang) where I can see any visitors from the desk.

The clouds are starting to gather off the coast and I'm sure the fog will be back as the sun sets.

Rain Falling Down

Jimmy LaFave and band with Rain Falling Down. Live stills shot by Pete Lacker and composed by Bryan Peterson per the utube page.

It has been a lovely day. Woke up to big booming thunder that made the house shake. Had thunderstorms off the coast all day and enjoyed the ear candy nature was providing. Tonight, it has rained most of the night - from sprinkles to downpour and back to sprinkles again. The thunder and lightning has continued with many new flashes occurring while I am still hearing the thunder from the previous flash. I am totally enjoying Oregon.

Walked down the hill to the beach today but found a gazillion logs wedged up against the bluff where the trail ends. I'm sure there is another way to getting to the beach without having to climb over all those logs. No way I was gonna do that (laughing) - not with my fake knee and my well documented history of being a klutz. Still, I stood at the trail's end, watching the surfers (the waves were not all that great today) and the people walking on the beach.

Oregon

Oregon is forking gorgeous (at least along the coast). I enjoyed all the eye candy on the drive - around dang near every turn and on the other side of each hill were crashing waves, dramatic cliffs and rocks. I really am gonna have to get off my tushkie and get a digital camera so I can share just how forking gorgeous it really is.

I got in yesterday afternoon and was too forking tired to do much - unpacked part of my suitcases, ate some dinner and went to bed! Slept the best sleep I've had in weeks - I don't think I woke up once after I nodded off - very rare indeed.

Was going to walk on the beach at sunset tonight but forgot that I had to be at the lake early tonight. I did find a grocery store today and did some shopping - but it was Safeway and I prefer to have better food than that. I got really spoiled with the market I used up on the mountain - fresh and locally produced with an emphasis on natural and organic. Didn't see too much of that at Safeway. But it is close - just a few miles down the road.

There are lots of drive through expresso stands up here. I think is this my kinda area (laughing).

The vacation rental is just perfectly sized - 2 bedrooms/ 2 baths single story. No ocean views but one block to the south of me is the beach and one block to the west is the edge of the bluff overlooking all that crashing surf onto the rocks stuff. Just far away that it is not loud enough to register as noise but if ya listen for it, ya can hear it. It was foggy up here yesterday but today was sunny with big fluffy clouds constantly changing. Tonight, foggy and quiet with no wind.

The neighborhood here reminds me of up on the mountain - a mix of full time residents and vacation folks. Lotsa trees (no redwoods tho) and ferns, azaleas and rhoddys. Moss on the trees. Annual rainfall per the neighbors is 80" - 5 more than I got there. So far, a good match - just not sure if I am in a Kaiser coverage area. Will have to figure that out before I find where my where is.

Carmel By The Sea

Am down in Carmel by the Sea visiting my friend Anne. She is spoiling me rotten and I'm letting her (laughing).

Leaving the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods wasn't as hard as I worried it would be - instead, I found myself crying while saying goodbye to Token, promising him that I would be back down to get him. Bailey the cat refused to come inside last nite and slept outside. She is obviously pissed and I never got to tell her goodbye either.

My odometer hit 104,000 miles when I was at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 1 (also known as the fishhook) in Santa Cruz. Will be easy to determine how far I go with an easy to remember number like that. I took it as a good omen.

Am sitting in Anne's studio, watching the Olympics, using wifi (!) . Looking out the window, the street lights are dimmed by the fog. We are not close enough to smell the salt air but I can sure feel it. It seems very appropriate to start my journey at the ocean and ending at the vacation rental just north of Newport and 50 steps to the beach.

Road Trip

Tuesday nite at the lake, we riffed some forking great road trip tunes. There were so many good ones played in the comments, there is no way I can pick just one. I'm gonna send ya over there, tell ya to read the coments and click on all the links. Everything from the Canned Heat to Johnny Cash. Plenty to keep ya busy while I'm gone (laughing).

I'll be trying to blog from the road - I've never wified before but have been told it is pretty easy and shown the steps I gotta do to hook into it.

Wed night I will be in Carmel at my friend's house and will be able to do my first wifi at her place. Fingers and toes crossed!

Mickey's Trailer

Mickey's Trailer

From the utube page:

Our bold trio travels cross-country by trailer - and sorely lives to regret it, especially when the makeshift vehicle crashes its way down a cliffside.

Characters — Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy

Director — Ben Sharpsteen

Animation — Johnny Cannon, Les Clark, and Ed Love

Cut Scenes — Goofy struggles with corncob, during which he sticks his fork in a light socket; the resulting electric shock pops the corn.

Tonight is my last night at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods. Tomorow, my adventure begins - without a trailer (laughing).

I'm So Tired

The Beatles - I'm So Tired - but the pod is packed except for one tv, the vacuum cleaner, one lamp and 2 fans. There is a real sweet spot right in front waiting for them. Tuesday will be spend cleaning and running errands, going to the bank, the pharmacy, post office, etc.

Tonight and tomorrow night are my last nights here and I think I am ok with it. I am determined to have an adventure, have fun, take the drive up slow so I can enjoy the eye candy California has to offer.

Fingers and toes crossed but I think it will all be done and I am starting to see the end in sight.

Don't Get Me Started

Rodney Crowell - Don't Get Me Started

Yeap, been one of them days. Hell, its been one of them weeks (laughing). More stuff in the pod and we are almost done. Have to get the stuff from Jen's old storage Saturday and get my potted plants down to my friend who is going to watch them. Am renting a van Saturday to transport the boxes from storage to here, then the plants from her to there.

Final POD day is Tuesday with pickup scheduled for Wednesday, August 13 - my final day here. Next week, the adventure begins - this week is the week from packing hell that will make me appreciate nex week (laughing). I h-a-t-e moving.

Toon Tuesday: The Wabbit Who Came To Supper

Sorry for posting late today - was over the hill signing the papers needed for escrow to close on Friday.

Here is Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in The Wabbit Who Came To Supper, a spoof the classic 1942 Betty Davis movie The Man Who Came to Dinner. Both the cartoon and movie are by Warner Bros.

Pod People

From the utube page: The classic and landmark season 3 episode of the series and possibly the funniest episode in the entire long and rich history of MST.

Had about 10 people show up today - the POD is half loaded. I have 9 more days to finish filling it and get out of here. Oy.

You Gotta Move

The Rolling Stones - You Gotta Move, live Aux Abbatoirs, Paris, June 6, 1976.

Buyer came today and had her final walk through with her agent. Tomorrow, a bunch of the lake's pups are coming up to a Help Pack The Pod party in the afternoon. The plan is to get the beds broken down and all the furniture goes into the pod. The red sofa and coordinating rug are going to my neighbor to use in the lobby of his office. It will be my bed until I hit the road. I can get the rest of the boxes, etc in but needed help with the furniture. Am hoping it's gonna be more party and less pack.

Wasn't able to get to Castro Valley to get the stuff out of storage this week - had that lower intestinal bug that was going around up here last week and dared not get too far from my newest bff, the porcelain goddess. I'm gonna rent a van and drive up there to get the stuff and bring it back here for packing in the pod.

Ciao! Bella!

Where I had dinner tonight with a friend. Of course, this was not the song we saw - but it does bring a wee bit of the flavor of Ciao! Bella! restaurant. Tonight, they are no longer an Italian restaurant - tonight was the first night of their being a Mexican restaurant. I gotta tell ya, their rice and beans were fantabulous, as was my flautas and enchilada. Tad in in full drag queen regalia tonight while doing this song - wearing a different outfit of course.

Youth Of The Nation

P.O.D. - Youth Of The Nation

My POD arrived today and is sitting in the driveway. Woohoo! It's better than a musical group!
