Kayaker In The Rain

Ya have to click on the photo to see the kayaker headed to shore when it started raining. The kayak is by the tree limb jutting out into the cove. After the rain slowed back down to drizzle, he headed back towards the north end of the bay.
.

This picture is what would be called a sun break -- where the sunshine pokes through a hole in the clouds before the hole closes over again. Been breezy but nothing fierce. Sure hasn't kept the birds from the bird feeder on the deck.

The bluejays are, for the moment, letting the little birds enjoy some unharrassed time at the feeder.

Good Evening

I had a good laugh when i saw Busted's post here at TTGB this morning. He showed it to me and the post he has up about it over at his place called Freezing My Ass Off At The Coast when I finally hauled my tushkie outta bed. Busted proclaimed my sofa a fine place to sleep and I let him know he has an open invite anytime.

I had a great time hanging out with the Onery one and was sorry I couldn't hang out with him longer when I dropped him off this afternoon. Had to hurry up and get home with plenty of time to eat and catch up before my shift at Firedoglake tonight.

The video I used for my Late Late Night post tonight was a hoot. Tis Johnny Carson and Carol Wayne doing Tea Time Movies. Be sure to check it out.

Good Morning

Heh, Suzanne is gonna kill me when she sees this.

This is Bustednuckles from Ornery Bastard.

I came to visit and bring back her old car that she left at my friends house when she finally got another car. She is snoozing and I was bored so I turned on this here machine thingy and Lo and Behold.........

I love her place, OMG, real live, honest to God, two by fours!
Big beams, columns, little knick knack shelves, you should see the wood work around here!

Wood everywhere. Very rustic, I love it.
I am watching the little birds flit back and forth on the porch, have the woodstove cranked up and am looking out across the bay.

No wonder why she loves this place.

There is a half black Bluejay chasing the little birds away from the bird feeder as I type.

Man oh man do I miss the coast, I grew up a couple of hundred miles from here.

Anyway. Hugs and kisses to Suzanne, love ya dear. Don't be mad at me, LOL!

She is a very special lady.

Gray

Tis another gray wet day here at the peaceful retreat by the bay. Another day to putz around inside and enjoy the warmth of the fire. Another high surf advisory and high wind warning for tonight and tomorrow. Weather dood says 100% chance of rain today and tomorrow but it is a warmer system than the one earlier this week. Weather dood also says that this weekend is going to be sunny.

Wind was blowing last night but not as strong as we've experienced since we moved up here. Token was not liking the sound the wind makes but he wasn't barking at it or being fussy and whiny as he has done with other windy storms. He is getting used to our new life in Oregon and has been exploring the acreage here more -- he likes doing down to the little stream that runs into the creek on the other side of the studio and jumping back and forth across the stream. Needless to say, he is wanting to hang out inside today and does his necessary business out in the elements very quickly and then scurries back inside and makes a beeline for under the wood stove.

Currently 48 outside and the lows tonight should be in the low 40's. Picked up 2 and 1/4" of rain so far this week bringing the total rainfall since October 1st to 48.52 inches.

Hail

Twas an great weather geek day. First there was sunshine earlier in the day but then it started to cloud up. Didn't get all that warm today (only in the 50's) and a half hour before sunset it was already down to 39. That cold air from Alaska is certainly here.

Had several bands of hail pass through late afternoon and tonight. At times it was coming down pretty hard:

While taking this picture of the first band of hail to roll through, I saw my neighbor running back home along the mud of low tide. I figure he was out clamming and got caught by the hail.

About a half hour later, I had a really strong band of hail and took video (up top of this post). Snow is falling in the Coast Range and the Cascades.

Currently 34 outside. The Jotul wood stove is blazing and keeping it toasty warm inside.

Saturday Sunshine

Saturday was a lovely day until a chilly breeze blew in late Saturday afternoon ahead of Sunday's rain. Before the wind cooled it off, I got up to 65. Nice to have a day of warm before today's chilly rain. Weather dood is still saying snow levels down to around the 1,000 ft level Monday night, Tuesday, and maybe even Wednesday. There is a good chance there will be snow on the valley floor and possibly even in the Portland metro area. Already down to 39 here and am keeping an eye on the temperatures in case I need to move some of my potted plants on the deck indoors. The really cold air mass from Alaska is supposed to arrive Monday evening.

My creeping rosemary is in bloom (middle picture) as is the lemon thyme. The chives also survived the winter's freeze and are doing well. The rest of the plants in those two planters are still iffy. The peony bud is getting bigger but there still are not many leaves on it -- just those around the bud up top with nothing sprouting yet further down the stems. The fuschias are way overdue for a repotting -- another chore to add to my spring list. Bulbs (daffs and maybe tulips?) are coming up in another pot but no blooms yet.

I'm headed to the grocery store Monday afternoon to do some long overdue stocking up on basics. Tis one of those times when it seems I'm out of everything -- I am not looking forward to carrying all those grocery bags up the stairs but I am looking forward to a fully stocked pantry again.

Am thinking of taking some road trips. Want to drive up Mt Hood and see Timberline Lodge and then do the same with Mt. Rainer and its Paradise Lodge. Have some friends to visit in the Seattle area and I also want to drive across the border into Canada to get the first stamp in my passport. The biggie road trip is wanting to drive to Colorado and see Stephanie and then swing south to Arizona to see my mom, stepdad, and sister. Got wandering fever again and I'm way overdue for a roadtrip.

Soft

Tonight's sunset was very soft and pastel -- made me want to stay on the deck watching it fade into darkness but I had to hurry back inside since I was working the Lake. Got up to 65 today but it has already dropped to 43 outside and it is bound to get colder.

Weather dood says change is coming and it is going to get wet and cold starting Sunday afternoon through Monday. Chance of snow down to the 1500 ft level and small hail at lower elevations. Rest of the week is forecast to be wet.

The Only Sun

The only sun I got today was this little sliver along the horizon.

Twas worth the wait.

Clouds

Today was a day of clouds. The sun would try to break through and shine and the clouds would quickly hide the sun again.

This big one swallowed the sun while the rest of its buddies closed in along the horizon preventing my seeing any sign of sunset. As Katie Scarlet O'Hara would say, tomorrow is another day.
