Cauliflower Sunset

It has been gray, wet, and windy here but I was treated to a wee bit of color at sunset on Monday. That is the picture up top.

From Jen's email with Baby Julianna's size descriptor for week 27:
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
Jen was diagnosed with gestational diabetes yesterday. She has a meeting with both a dietitian and a gestational diabetes specialist on Tuesday and we will know more after that. She has had a very difficult pregnancy and I hope that the undiagnosed diabetes was the cause. I pray that her diabetes is easily controlled and that once controlled, the rest of her pregnancy goes much easier for her. Will know more after next week's appointments.

Best wishes for all concerned. I'm sure everything will be fine. Youth has it's advantages!

    And...three cheers for hiccups!

  4. Hope for the best for Jen and Baby Cauliflower. If it took her getting pregnant for the to spot the diabetes, hopefully that means it's the easily treatable kind.

  5. thanks cujo -- gestational diabetes is a subset of the disease that usually crops up around week 28 of pregnancy and goes away after the baby is born. i am hoping that jen's is one that is easily controlled with diet and exercise -- she will know more tuesday after she sees the specialist and dietitian.

  7. thanks ll -- jen has had difficulties from the very beginning and it seems like it has been one troubling thing after another -- she sure going use some good news, not to mention several days in a row of feeling good -- she's had very few of those.
